The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) yesterday announced an effort to find an XML-based Web site address scheme for distributed directory services and data sharing, with accommodations for Web services. Whether major vendors such as IBM and Microsoft Corp. support the plan remains to be seen, however. The OASIS Extensible Resource Identifier (XRI) Technical Committee will define a uniform resource locator (URL) scheme and a corresponding Uniform Resource Namespace (URN) for a common identification scheme across domains, applications and transport protocols. The plan also involves developing mechanisms for resolving XRIs and exchanging data and metadata associated with XRI-identified resources, OASIS said.

The basic principle of Interferential Therapy (I/F) is to utilize the strong physiological effects of low frequency ( ≌ <250pps) electrical stimulation of muscle and nerve tissues without the associated painful and somewhat unpleasant side effects of each stimulation. To produce low frequency effects at sufficient intensity, most patients experience considerable discomfort in the superficial tissues (i.e. the skin). This is due to the resistance of the skin being inversely proportional to the frequency of the stimulation. In other words, the lower the stimulation frequency, the greater the resistance to the passage of the current, so, more discomfort is experienced. The skin resistance at 50Hz is approximately 3200 Ω whilst at 4000Hz it is reduced to approximately 40 Ω . The result of applying this latter frequency is that it will pass more easily through the skin, requiring less electrical energy input to reach the deeper tissues and giving rise to less discomfort.

The Cold War was underway by 1946, the year of Winston Churchill's “Iron Curtain” speech and George Kennan's “policy of containment.” By 1952 the Cold War had started to intensify when the East and West both obtained the hydrogen bomb and when the new interventionist foreign policy of President Dwight D. When Dulles alternately courted and rejected Egypt, offering and then withdrawing U.S. aid, Nasser didn't  retaliate directly; rather, he abruptly nationalized the Suez Canal. Britain and France enlisted Israel's help in an attack on Egypt but failed to follow through even though Israel's Sinai campaign succeeded. The result was mixed. The two colonial powers were decisively humiliated, but Israel was seen by much of the world as having been overly eager to conduct aggressive war on their behalf.
